UCLA Student Food Collective
WHO: Students, artists, activists, musicians, cooks, food-lovers, and community members!
WHAT: The UCLA Student Food Collective is a project to establish a student-owned, cooperatively-run business on campus that provides the UCLA community with affordable food, produced both locally and sustainably. Our goal is to work for the people by the people: educating our community about the food economy and training our students in sustainable business practices. Come share a meal and be a part of our cooperative business!
FOOD BUYING CLUB: A food buying club pools the collective buying power of a group of people to purchase in bulk and at wholesale prices from local producers and distributors. These large-scale purchases are then divided among the members to provide affordable, fresh, locally-sourced foods. This differs from a CSA in that the members democratically participate in choosing what products they are interested in purchasing. Essentially, it's a food co-op without a storefront! For Spring 2013, the Food Buying Club is meeting every Tuesday at 6-6:30PM in Humanities A48, during which we coordinate orders and pick-ups. To learn more & be added to our mailing list (through which we send out order information), fill out our interest survey here.
